機油認證規範篇二
(1) 美國石油協會（American Petroleum Institude），簡稱 ＡＰＩ
主要在美國地區銷售的以API車用機油的標準來說可分為兩大類：
一是商業用油（Commerical Oil），如中大型卡車、 巴士、工程車等所用的機油，這些車輛大都以柴油做為燃料，所以以C字頭來代表，
如CE、CF-2、CF-4、CG-4、CH-4、CI-4等；二是一般加油站（Service Station）所售的機油，通常使用於轎車且是汽油引擎的小型車輛上

機油種類篇
機油是以基礎油和添加劑混和而成，基礎油(即油基)分為礦物油(mineral oil)和合成油(synthetic oil)和植物油三種。
1.礦物油：礦物油是從原油提煉而得，也就是原油提出了油氣、汽油、柴油、煤油、重油之後，接著提煉出礦物油，最後留底的是瀝青。礦物油顏色透明微帶淺琥珀色，就像沙拉油的顏色一般。有一種礦物機油是從廢機油回收過濾之後蒸餾氫化重製，價錢非常便宜，其顏色是深棕琥珀色。通常礦物機油很便宜，一罐約百元以下，因為礦物油較容易氧化，使用壽命約2500–4000公里/三個月，以先到者為準就要換油，跑長途者換油里程可於約4000公里換油，常跑市區者約2500公里換油。
2.合成油是將礦物油裂解後，再加以合成，可以得到性質較一致的化學成分，顏色與礦物油相似為澄清微帶淺琥珀色，因提煉成本高所以價昂，約一罐300元左右，但抗氧化性良好，是相當好的長效型機油，使用壽命約5000–10000公里/六個月，以先到者為準，常跑長途者約8000–10000公里換油，常跑市區者5000公里換油。
3.植物油：另有一種專供F1賽車短時間超高速賽車用機油，油基為毘麻油，毘麻油是目前潤滑性能最好的油基，比合成油還好，但是非常容易氧化，只能供短時間賽車使用，不能作為一般轎車長時間使用。毘麻油在礦物油發明之前廣為車輛機油使用，日據時代在台灣鄉下廣植毘麻以提煉機油用，戰爭時期更是戰略物資，現在鄉下河邊常可見到野生毘麻，非常普遍。毘麻子有毒，吃了會下痢，常作為中藥洩劑用。
